Airstream imported just 250 of them, for just one year, in 2005. The van, and its Westfalia conversion, were built in Germany, where its known as the Westfalia James Cook. The Sprinter van is powered by the venerable 2.7L Mercedes 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine, and it gets a predictable 22 miles per gallon on the highway. It has a 5-speed automatic transmission, disc brakes on all 4 wheels, ABS anti-lock brakes, anti-skid control, power steering, power door locks with keyless entry, power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and the optional engine monitoring computer that tells you when the next oil change is due. Oil change intervals are up to 10,000 miles. Theres also a diesel-fired hydronic heater that pre-heats the engines coolant for cold-weather starting. The Westfalia camping conversion has so many features, I will probably miss a few in the following list: Carries 5 passengers safely, with full seat belts and shoulder harnesses. Sleeps 4 in two double-size beds, one on the lower level and one in the loft. Front captains chairs, fully adjustable, with armrests, that rotate to face the living space.
