This is the real thing, this is NOT a toy! The Erie 400 In October of 1924, J. Pierpont Morgan Jr. ordered a private railway car from the Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago, Illinois. This masterpiece of rail car craftsmanship was completed in May of 1925 and was named Erie 400. The car was used by J.P. Morgan Jr. for corporate and personal travel for many customers, guests and family members. Erie 400 Features The elegant private railroad car was built using the finest materials available from around the world, including rare and exotic hardwoods, floor coverings, wall coverings, furniture and bath fixtures. The 85 foot long Erie 400 boasts an open platform with a handmade brass rail at the rear of the car, an observation/living room, four large bedroom suites, private baths, a dining room, full kitchen and pantry and crew quarters. The Erie 400 was truly a fitting rolling mansion for J.P. Morgan Jr. The Erie 400 Today In the mid 1990's the current owner of the Erie 400 completely restored the private rail car to its original splendor, with modern upgrades including heating, air-conditioning, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems. A full custom interior was completed using the finest imported leathers, woods, velvets, brass and glass. The car rides on two three-axle trucks which were rated for 110 MPH on Amtrak passenger trains 5 years ago. The Erie 400 can accommodate up to 10 guests in total comfort on overnight trips and up to 24 on day excursions. The exclusive feature of the Erie 400 is the open-air rear platform with a gleaming brass rail. This is the ideal vantage point to take in the passing vistas; the beautiful Rockies, rivers, lakes and farmlands. North America is best seen by the private rail car Erie 400. Getting the Erie 400 Amtrak Certified The Erie 400 was Amtrak ready up until 5 years ago when stricter regulations for private cars were imposed.
