This is listing for a 1947 Federal truck tractor. It has a six cylinder with Diamond T Special on the intake manifold. It has a five speed transmission with a split upper and lower range. It has a live tandem. It is a very heavy tractor, slow. It was probably used as a low boy tractor.1947 Federal Model 46 Diamond Special Semi Tractor 6,086 odometer mileage, 6-Cylinder Gas Engine, 5 speed Manual Trans with Split Trans, Tandem Axle, Spring Ride, Runs & DrivesFederal was a truck manufacturer based in Detroit from the early 1900's to the 1950's. Similar to Diamond T, and Reo, they purchased engines, such as Continental and Hercules, and drive train components from other manufacturer's and did their own sheet metal and assembly. This is a particularly heavy tractor. I would guess that it was used as a lowboy tractor. We have owned the Federal for three years, purchasing it from a local collector who had too many other projects. We find ourselves in that same boat and won't have the time to spend on the Federal. The truck seems in pretty good shape mechanically. It starts immediately, idles, runs, shifts and moves. I have not had it out on the road since Michigan requires a CDL to do so. You can see, and hear, the truck on a youtube video at Federal Truck Tractor Model 46 July 2015. The cab has some rust on the doors, windshield frame and cab seams. For it's age and the fact that it has been in storage for a number of years, I think it is in pretty good shape. The lines of this truck are classic, and it is a classic. It deserves a good home and to be restored. The conditions of sale are as is/where is. The purchaser is responsible for pick up. We will not ship this item. If you have any questions or would like to see the truck, please call Mike at 616-560-3114 or send me an email. Many thanks for your consideration.
