Sumitomo ST778. **International (Class 8) >>means rated for a semi-truck and 1,000,000 (1 million miles) of service Wet-Sleeved Turbo Diesel / NO DEF FLUID REQUIRED / 10-13 mpg @55mph while towing a 3,500# vehicle. 9mpg @75mph This engine is rated for 800,000 - 1,000,000 miles of use before first overhaul. Most coaches have Cummins ISB diesel engine. The ISB engine is exactly the same engine thats in the Dodge Ram line of trucks. Its meant for light duty pick-up trucks and farm tractors, not a 40,000lb bus / motor-coach RV. The poor little ISB is a "throw-away" diesel good for 300,000 miles (used to be more but all of the pollution requirements & DEF have shortened the life of all diesels) and in a big RV this engine is working over-time to get you up to high-way speeds and up those mountains. They often have cooling issues. I can promise you the MaxxForce 10 by International can push you up any mountain road with a 10,000lb tailer and you will beat every other coach uphill. It can even handle Death Valley in the middle of the summer during a 125 degree day. I know because I've done it in this coach. (I'll be honest the AC cant handle Death Valley, even with all (4) ACs blasting its still 100 inside the coach)**Coach built on Roadmaster modified bus chassis / 99.9% of coaches ride on a Freightliner RV chassis. Freightliner is a Mercedes Benz company. When I first started renting RVs all of my coaches had the Freightliner Chassis. I had problem after problem with the chassis. For example the oil-filled hydrostatic cooling fan would only last 15,000 - 20,000 miles at a time and replacing it was a 6hr job and cost around $600. The rear end / differential only could make it 50,000 - 55,000 miles before failure. I have all of the receipts and paperwork to verify what I am saying. This was on coach after coach. I finally had a sit-down meeting with Mercedes and Freightliner and I was told they design their RV chassis for the "average" RV owner that drives 3,000 to 5,000 miles per year. Therefore the cooling fan that lasts 15-20k miles and is good for 3-7 years before failure and that was acceptable. They said the same about the $6,500 rear end manufactured by their subsidiary Alliance Truck Parts. It was rated for RV use only and at the average miles driven by an owner that would be 10-17 years before failure. I was told this is why they only offer a 12 month or 12,000 miles warranty on most new coaches. Since my business was renting coaches my units drove exponentially more miles than the average RV owner. I was told if I wanted something reliable to buy a bus because they are designed to go 1,000,000 miles before their first overhaul and many bus lines operated a coach for 3,000,000 miles before retiring the coach. So I did. I bought the Monaco Knights on a modified bus chassis made by Roadmaster and I spec'd them with a Class 8 (heaviest duty) International Maxxforce 10 truck engine--a $20,000 upgrade. These chasis have 8 air bags unlike the Freightliners with 4 air bags and have 8 heavy duty shock absorbers rather than the 4 found on the Freightliners. The Monaco's are / were the most reliable coaches I have ever owned.**Always properly maintained using Rotella Full Synthetic 5w40 T6 Oil since first oil change / All maintenance records available upon request **Tow Your Car or SUV--2 WHEEL CAR HAULER / DOLLY INCLUDED FREEThe ultimate in luxury and sophistication.
